Translation and validation of the Swedish version of the Self-Compassion Scale for Youth

Objective Compassion-focused interventions for young people have started to emerge treat depressive symptoms, and reliable valid measures of the construct “self-compassion” is needed this age-group in Swedish. This study aims validate Swedish translation Self-Compassion Scale Youth (SCS-Y).Method Self-report questionnaires were collected from students (N = 316) aged 15–20 recruited schools Sweden, a cross-sectional design. Confirmatory factor analyses, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, measurement invariance convergent divergent validity calculated.Results A model with one general bi-factor six specific factors had best fit confirmed structure SCS-Y. Internal consistencies good, except subscale mindfulness boys which was questionable. Three-week reliability good. We found age no equivalence sex. Evidence using correlations. Sex differences found: girls scored higher on self-judgement, feelings isolation showed more over-identification, than boys.Conclusions The version SCS-Y (SCS-Y-SE) self-report questionnaire, some limitations, assess self-compassion clinical practice research.
